It’s employee ownership month and we’d like to take the opportunity to recognize our very own Ben Smolinski for his contributions! Innovation is a core value at Western Land Services, Inc. – “We embrace bold new ideas and are unconstrained by the way things have been done in the past. We continuously reinvent our products and processes to serve our clients effectively and efficiently.” With that, we are proud to announce Ben Smolinski as the winner of our first Innovation Initiative. His idea to leverage existing technologies and develop a process to improve our abilities to staff projects across the nation in a more effective manner, will have a positive impact on how WLS does business. The WLS Innovation Team would like to congratulate Ben and thank everyone who participated by sharing their ideas. With this ongoing effort, we look forward to pushing these ideas forward and strengthening our company in the process!
With many of our clients utilizing Quorum Software, and the reputable firm’s growing presence in the industry, WLS is pleased to sponsor the popular Qnections conference taking place on June 23-25, 2020, and happening virtually this year! The sponsorship itself stands for a great cause, supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. If you haven’t registered yet, and are either an existing Quorum user or are interested in learning more, don’t miss out! – Click here to see the event page!
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT – SHAWN FIELDS
Dear Clients, Friends and Partners,
The Western family has watched as many in our industry have been increasingly impacted by COVID-19, and first wish to extend our thoughts and prayers to your respective team members that may be personally impacted during this time.
An increasing number of states, counties, and municipalities, along with the Federal government, have passed laws and issued orders that have and will have an impact on our offices and business. We want to assure you that Western is taking these laws and orders seriously and are working to ensure complete compliance with them in our various offices around the country.
Our staff has been encouraged to work remotely where they can. Where we need to be at our offices or in the field to stay on top of our projects and are legally allowed to do so, we are requiring compliance with the CDC recommendations regarding the safeguards associated with COVID-19. Those employees working remotely are fully accessible and available to you as always via phone, email, and any other forms of communication necessary to get the job done. Our team is very seasoned and has a long track record of working the phones aggressively to acquire leases, rights of way, or curative instruments to help control costs for our clients, so we are ready to take on COVID-19 and stay impactful for our clients. Finally, our back office team of professionals are in place to handle the processing of all payments, signed documents, invoices or other matters needing attention.
We are also monitoring closely all government office closures, national and local laws or orders as they are released, and we promise to keep our clients informed of any events impacting our ability to meet deadlines or cause delays in the execution of our work.
Western has been in business for over 45 years, and we realize these are challenging times for our country and our industry. But we believe it’s challenging times where our core values shine the brightest at WLS, which remind us that our attitude as employee owners leads us to embrace innovative solutions to deliver best-in-class service to our clients. We have the breadth of experience, the creative mind-set, and the depth of team to handle your title, due diligence, GIS, regulatory, data ingestion, commercial real estate, and renewable projects from start to finish, even during this difficult time.
Thanks for putting your trust in Western. We hope you and yours are safe and well.

This year our Ludington office decided to host some Christmas games in order to raise funds for our local United Way chapter. Some of the games included a desk decorating contest, water flip cup, a scavenger hunt, and a blindfolded donut challenge! Each team had opportunities to gain an advantage by making donations to the United Way of Mason County. Not only were the games a way for Western to raise some money for a great cause, it also made for a fun day in the office and a great opportunity for some team bonding!”
