Every year around the holidays, Western Land Services (WLS) employees work together with local organizations that provide valuable services to the less fortunate in our communities.
As the Christmas and New Year holidays came to a close, we wanted to take a moment to spotlight a couple of our recent fundraising efforts. Like past years, our employees participated in the annual Toys for Tots programs throughout our nationwide offices (https://www.toysfortots.org/). In the photo collage to the left, and pictured on the far right, are Sebastian Alvarado and Ryan Benson preparing to take toys to the donation center in Oklahoma City.
Our Ludington team also raised nearly $2,000 in gifts and monetary donations for Staircase Youth Services, a Western Michigan organization that provides a variety of services for teens and young adults (aged 12-21) whom are at-risk or in crisis. Services include Outreach and Transition to Adulthood (TAP/TLP) Programs. They also specialize in assisting homeless teens who need a place to turn or other resources. Their current coverage area includes six counties in the state of Michigan. To learn more about Staircase Youth Services, visit them at www.staircaseyouthserices.org. In the photo collage, the two photos on the left reflect our efforts! Pictured from left to right are; Leann Frattini, Kerry Terryn, and Cynthia Arneson of Staircase Youth, and Melissa Sanders, Jenny Young, and Sharon Clark of Western Land Services.
A huge thank you to all of our staff members whom participated in these fundraisers!
Celebrating the Industry, Relationships and the Holidays
The Michigan Oil and Gas Association held its annual holiday membership meeting at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort in Thompsonville, MI. A ski resort venue was very fitting, as guests whom were brave enough to make the drive were greeted by a fresh blanket of snow. With headquarters based in Michigan, WLS cherishes the long-term relationships that have been built here over the last 40+ years and was pleased to sponsor the event.
The event began with a meet and greet cocktail hour and award ceremony recognizing the most festive Christmas attire. The ceremony was followed by dinner and discussion. New connections were made and old friendships were strengthened. The night concluded as a few of the more daring attendees contemplated revisiting their college days with a brisk slide down the ski slopes on repurposed cafeteria trays from the lodge. However, good judgement and the fear of injury prevailed. Until next year, Happy Holidays!

MAKING A LOCAL IMPACT
In its 19th year, the Annual Ludington Lake Jump was another successful event, raising a total of $85,390 amidst the community. Since inception, the event has raised over $500,000 for local charities. This year, Western’s CEO, John Wilson, and a large group of WLS employees braved the frigid waters of Lake Michigan!! WLS team members also raised an impressive grand total of $12,000! For a worthy cause of course – funds are going to Mason County’s Lakeshore Food Club, residing in our corporate office’s local neighborhood. The Lakeshore Food Club is a valuable resource for local families that are 200% or below the federal poverty guideline. Check out this article for additional details.
Supporting the Geospatial Community
As a company that appreciates and embraces the power of GIS in its day to day operations, Western Land Services is pleased to be sponsoring EnerGIS, a conference dedicated to fueling growth and collaboration of GIS within the Energy Industry. Taking place in Canonsburg, PA this week, April 26th & 27th, EnerGIS is in its sixth year. The agenda looks promising! And, what better way to wrap up the day, than with Social hour, sponsored by Western Land. While on-line registration is closed, there may still be space for walk-ins! A big thank you to the EnerGIS committee and GITA for putting on the event. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
Compassion Shines Through at Western Land
Giving back to the community is a core value at Western Land Services. We work hard for our clients and we work hard for our communities. This Spring, WLS has set its sights on donating 500 pints of blood and blood derivatives to the American Red Cross – to be achieved through a combination of WLS employees and staff recruits. Every pint of blood has the ability to save 3 lives!! It is our mission to rally the troops and lay the foundation for not only this immediate goal, but for years to come, the importance of this organization and blood donations. WLS is sponsoring its own blood drive in Ludington, MI on May 22nd and in Canonsburg, PA on May 31st. We are actively scheduling drives in other major locations. WLS employees are also donating Red Cross disaster relief items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, hairbrushes, and washcloths. Over the last five weeks, we have collected nearly 7,000 relief items!!! Yes, you read that correctly – from a company with less than 400 employees.
Join us in our pledge to good deeds, to giving back on a local and national level, and to a better future. You can make an impact.
